Chollacott House - Peter turns 100!

Happy 100th Birthday, Peter!

Peter turned 100 today! And what a wonderful celebration the staff at Chollacott House in Tavistock put on for him! An amazing cake, champagne, an enormous balloon. and of course, a card from The Queen. Such a shame that his family, who had planned to travel from Canada to be with him today, couldn’t join in with the party in person, but a Skype call in planned for this evening. Happy Birthday Peter from all of us at Stonehaven. Congratulations!!Chollacott houses Peter turns 100!Happy 100th birthday Peter in Chollacott houseHappy Birthday Peter from all of us at Stonehaven

Kent House - Plant donated from Waitrose

Acts of Kindness in Challenging Times

Kent House Manager, Julie popped to Waitrose at the weekend to buy some treats for her residents. When the store manager spotted her bulk buying she was quizzed, so explained she was from a local care home. With that, the lovely lady from Waitrose rushed off to find some beautiful plants to cheer up the residents who were missing visits from loved ones. Thank you Waitrose – you made us all smile!

Dove Tree House - mothers day cake

Mother’s Day Cake

The thoughtful chef at Dove Tree House in Exeter, created a wonderful cake for all the mothers in the home to share, in the absence of sons and daughters this year. Although a few turned up to wave through the window at their mums – some held lovely Mother’s Day banners! Positive stories in challenging times!

Dove Tree House - Waitrose

Thank you Waitrose, for the cake delivery

The lovely people of Waitrose in Exeter treated staff and residents at Dove Tree House to some freshly baked cakes and pastries yesterday! Thank you – what a lovely gesture during this very difficult time.

Stone Haven CQC good inspection

The Lilacs maintain their ‘Good’ rating from CQC

Well done to The Lilacs team in Exeter for maintaining their ‘Good’ rating from CQC, in all 5 Key Lines of Enquiry. The feedback provided to CQC from residents, their families, visitors and health professionals was overwhelmingly positive. One relative commented ‘It’s small enough to be like a family – it’s like a home, not an institution.’ Another said ‘When I come in, it’s like coming into Mum’s house – we are so grateful for your care of our dear Mum.’

If you are interested in finding out more about care at The Lilacs, please contact Manager Mary Davidson on 01392 435271.

St Luke's Hospice

St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth

St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth believes that no one should die alone, in pain or distress.

How someone is cared for at the end of their life can remain with relatives and loved ones for a long time so it is important to get the care right. All staff who care for people at end of life should be trained with the knowledge and skills to ensure that the end of life care people receive, maintains their dignity, choice and comfort. People should be able to die in a place of their choosing and their end of life wishes should be known by those caring for them.

St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth have been training local care homes and domiciliary care agencies in how to provide good end of life care. The programme is called the Six Steps Programme, as there are six key steps that an organisation has to complete to pass the course and receive the St Luke’s Six Step award. Their award is reviewed every year to ensure that the standards are maintained.

Congratulations to Chollacott House in Tavistock who have have maintained their Six Steps standard from St Luke’s.

Primrose House - Luxury Care Home

Primrose House: Knight Frank’s Luxury Care Home Guide 2020

Stonehaven were invited to Coutts in London on Wednesday last week, to celebrate the inclusion of Primrose House in Knight Frank’s 2020 Luxury Care Home Guide. 100 of the most prestigious care homes across the country are featured in this beautifully presented guide, so it was a real honour to be there and to meet other care home operators. Primrose House in Westward Ho! opened in September 2016. It’s location on the North Devon coast means that many of its 30 ensuite bedrooms enjoy views out to sea, as far as Saunton Sands and Lundy Island, on a clear day. The building was designed with the dementia resident in mind, with carefully chosen colours, lighting, textiles and lay-out. For more information about Primrose House, or to book an appointment to view, please call 01237 488023.

A Fond Farewell

This week we bid a fond farewell to Mathilde Bouts who has worked as Stonehaven’s Purchasing Assistant for the last three years. She’s off to start a new life in Southern Spain with her partner and their cats. Whilst we are absolutely thrilled for her, she will be SO missed by everyone who has had the pleasure of working with her. Buena Suerte!
