Acts of Kindness in Challenging Times
/in NewsKent House Manager, Julie popped to Waitrose at the weekend to buy some treats for her residents. When the store manager spotted her bulk buying she was quizzed, so explained she was from a local care home. With that, the lovely lady from Waitrose rushed off to find some beautiful plants to cheer up the residents who were missing visits from loved ones. Thank you Waitrose – you made us all smile!

The feedback provided to CQC from residents, their families, visitors and health professionals was overwhelmingly positive. One relative commented ‘It’s small enough to be like a family – it’s like a home, not an institution.’ Another said ‘When I come in, it’s like coming into Mum’s house – we are so grateful for your care of our dear Mum.’

St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth
/in NewsSt Luke’s Hospice Plymouth believes that no one should die alone, in pain or distress.
How someone is cared for at the end of their life can remain with relatives and loved ones for a long time so it is important to get the care right. All staff who care for people at end of life should be trained with the knowledge and skills to ensure that the end of life care people receive, maintains their dignity, choice and comfort. People should be able to die in a place of their choosing and their end of life wishes should be known by those caring for them.
St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth have been training local care homes and domiciliary care agencies in how to provide good end of life care. The programme is called the Six Steps Programme, as there are six key steps that an organisation has to complete to pass the course and receive the St Luke’s Six Step award. Their award is reviewed every year to ensure that the standards are maintained.
Congratulations to Chollacott House in Tavistock who have have maintained their Six Steps standard from St Luke’s.
Primrose House: Knight Frank’s Luxury Care Home Guide 2020
/in NewsStonehaven were invited to Coutts in London on Wednesday last week, to celebrate the inclusion of Primrose House in Knight Frank’s 2020 Luxury Care Home Guide. 100 of the most prestigious care homes across the country are featured in this beautifully presented guide, so it was a real honour to be there and to meet other care home operators. Primrose House in Westward Ho! opened in September 2016. It’s location on the North Devon coast means that many of its 30 ensuite bedrooms enjoy views out to sea, as far as Saunton Sands and Lundy Island, on a clear day. The building was designed with the dementia resident in mind, with carefully chosen colours, lighting, textiles and lay-out. For more information about Primrose House, or to book an appointment to view, please call 01237 488023.
